  • How much does a website cost?

The cost to design and develop a website depends on the number of pages, the number of photograps and level of complexity.

An average 5 page website with 15 to 20 photos will cost about $500. Additional pages and more photographs add to the cost. Use of features such as drop-down navigation menus, photo slide-shows, and video cost extra and will be quoted when the requirements are determined.

There is also a cost to use a domain name (that thing that ends in 'dot com') of about $10 per year, and a yearly cost to host your web site of about $120 per year.

  • How do I get a domain name?

First, think of several possible names that you might like. If you already are using a name for your business or hobby, then come up with several variations. For example, SundanceKennel.com, SundanceSpaniels.com or SundanceCockers.com may be possibilities.

Next, go to a Domain Name Registrar, such as GoDaddy.com and enter your desired domain name in the area provided. When you find a domain name that is available then follow the steps to purchase the right to use the domain name.

NOTE! Be sure to write down the account number (or user name) and password you used when you set up your account at the registrar. We will need this information when we set up the account where your website will be hosted.

  • How do I know what my website will look like?

After we agree on the cost and general features of your new website I will create several different graphic designs for your consideration. These designs will be based on colors you like or have seen on other websites. I'll need to know if you like bright colors, pastels, earth tones, darker colors and so on.

If your site will feature a large number of photos I believe the colors and design of the site should not overwhelm the photos that you want to emphasize.

Each design will be placed on your website for your review. We will work together through e-mail and phone calls to refine the graphic design of your website untill you are pleased with the final appearence of the site.

  • How do I get photos on my website?

If your photos are prints then you'll need to scan the photo and send it to me attached to an e-mail.

If you don't have a scanner you can mail the photos to me and I will scan them and return them to you.

If your photos were taken with a digital camera you can just e-mail the photos to me. If you have a large number of photos it is best to save them on a CD then mail the CD to me.

  • Can I make chages to the site after it is completed?

Yes. I encourage you to keep your website up to date.

If you are making changes to existing content, such as replacing photos or changing text, just send the text or photos to me and i will make the changes for free during the first year you have the website.

If you want to add pages or new photos/text then we can talk about the changes and settle on the cost to make the changes.

  • How can people find my website?

First, you should add your website address to places such as your signature in e-mail messages, on your business card, and in print advertising.

Next, contact other website owners that are involved in a similar business or hobby and tell them you will place a link to their website on your site, if they will place a link to your site on theirs. These are called reciprocal links and they are essential to getting a good ranking by the search engines.

Finally, when I design the pages of your site I add certain code that helps search engines catagorize your site and list it among other similar sites.
